A Word from the Board of Directors: March/April 2018

Since our last issue, your Board has been busy and diligent. We’ve been working to increase membership and to stabilize and improve our existing programs.

At our most recent board meeting, which took place March 9 and 10 in Boulder, Colorado, we appointed a new member to our ranks: Chad Pickard, owner of Spoke-N-Sport of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Chad began working in bike shops at age 14, and graduated to owner in 2001. His cycling passions include technical trail riding and local advocacy, and he is extremely interested in looking to other industries to improve the customer service experience at both of his shops.

The setting of said board meeting also afforded the board members in attendance an opportunity to explore Barnett Bicycle Institute in-depth. Speaking of BBI, look for news on the e-bike front from them soon.

All three P2 groups are proceeding, with meet-ups occurring throughout the month of March for each of them. Speaking of, we are currently recruiting new members to P2, so if you’re interested in intensive peer-to-peer networking and learning twice a year, we encourage you to reach out to Sara Michaels at sara@nbda.com for more information.

Over the winter, the board really hunkered down and retrofitted the America’s Best Bike Shop application. We hope that you’ll apply! We are already hard at work planning the celebratory shindig for all the winners that will take place at Interbike in Reno—this new location is giving us lots of inspiration for quite the soirée!

Finally, we’re taking a three-pronged approach to growing membership—working to see all existing members renew, reaching out to other dealers in the hopes they will join the association, and officially expanding membership to include mobile repair operations.

As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We wish all of you excellent spring and summer seasons.
